DANVILLE, IN (Jan. 31, 2019) – The Avon Wedding Barn recently received national recognition from a popular magazine as the best wedding venue in the state of Indiana.
Cosmopolitan Magazine featured the Avon Wedding Barn among the best wedding venues in each state on its website. The article highlighting the Avon Wedding Barn can be found online at Cosmopolitan.com with the search “Wedding Venues.”
The article titled This is the Most Popular Wedding Venue in Your State includes a picture of a bride and groom dancing during a wedding reception in the barn with a brief description.
Darinda Dragon, owner of the Avon Wedding Barn, said she was called by the Cosmopolitan writer Lillie Rice prior to publication saying their research had found that the Dragon’s venue was the most popular wedding space in Indiana.
“I was shocked and excited at the same time,” Dragon said. “It was a true blessing from God.”
Darinda and her husband Jim purchased the property at 7424 E. County Road 100 North, just east of Ind. 267, 21 years ago. The couple fondly remembered the barn after having a third date there during a square-dancing event. When they purchased the six-acre property that included the 100-year-old barn and a farmhouse, they had no intention of turning it into an event venue, she said.
Friends on two different occasions asked if they could use their barn for a wedding, which they allowed. Then they held their daughter’s wedding there in 2011.
“It really just took off from there through word of mouth from people who had attended those weddings,” she said.
But it wasn’t until Darinda had a vision of how they could utilize a portion of the funds from the events held there that the business blossomed. The Dragons always supported missions and missionaries through their local church and felt the Avon Wedding Barn could be a new revenue source to ramp up support of those Christian mission efforts. The Dragons have and continue to support missions in the Dominican Republic, Mexico and India allowing the Avon Wedding Barn to improve the lives of so many people in other countries, she said.
In 2017, The Avon Wedding Barn sat atop The Indy A-List for many months as the top wedding venue in Central Indiana before finishing fourth in voting. They’ve also been recognized in many other local publications as a top wedding venue.
